Trump announces 30% tariffs on Mexico and the EU. President Trump posted on Truth Social letters to the leaders of Mexico and the EU, announcing that starting August 1, 2025, the U.S. will impose a 30% tariff on products imported from Mexico and the EU. Trump said tariffs may be adjusted if Mexico makes real progress against drug cartels and fentanyl smuggling, or if the EU opens its market to U.S. goods by removing tariffs, non-tariff measures, and other barriers.

Hong Kong legislator Duncan Chiu posted on X that he has submitted 27 policy recommendations to John Lee for the 2025 Policy Address, covering six areas. Key points: (a) Promote Hong Kong as a Web3 hub through policy support, talent development, and industry ecosystem, including refining crypto and tokenization regulations and tax policies. (b) Lead a Belt & Road crypto regulatory alliance, co-hosting a Web3 regulation summit in HK each year, and designing rules in line with global standards.
