This malware, known as ModStealer, had already been lurking undetected under mainstream antivirus engines for nearly a month at the time of disclosure. Its method of propagation is through fake job advertisements targeting developers. Mosyle stated that spreading through fake job ads is intentional, as the targets are developers who may already be using the Node.js environment.
